The Process

4 Simple Steps to Certification

Becoming a Certified Process Server in Georgia is a straightforward process. Follow the four steps below to begin your certification journey.

1

Complete the 12 Credit Hour Course

Enroll in and successfully complete the required 12-credit-hour Process Server training course at your own pace.

2

Pass the AOC's Process Server Examination

After completing the course, register to take and pass the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) Process Server Exam. The exam registration fee is $250, paid directly to GA JC/AOC.

3

Submit Your Certified Process Server Application

Submit your Certified Process Server application to your local Sheriff's Office along with the required documents and information below:

  • Obtain Errors & Omissions Insurance or a $25,000 Surety Bond through Yergey Insurance or any insurance company of your choice.
  • Email a professional photo (preferably with a white background) to bloeffler@georgiasheriffs.org and msammons@georgiasheriffs.org.
  • Schedule your swearing-in appointment with your local Sheriff's Office. Once your application has been submitted and approved, the Sheriff's Office will contact you to schedule your swearing-in ceremony.
  • During the swearing-in process, you will sign Form 4. Note: Form 4 itself denies authorization to serve process — your official authority to serve process is granted by the courts in Step 4, so this signature does not affect your ability to be appointed.
4

Apply with the Courts and Maintain Your Certification

Apply for appointment in the Georgia courts of your choice to receive your authorization to serve process. Open Enrollment for continuing education generally begins in October each year — submit your Continuing Education Certificates to maintain your certification.
